Why does a battery die?

In theory, batteries should last many years, but they usually don’t because of a series of detrimental problems caused by “excessive sulfation buildup” related to the natural and necessary formation of sulfate crystals on the surface of lead battery plates. “Sulfation” buildup occurs as lead sulfates form on the battery plates during the normal charge and discharge cycles. (This can happen whether the battery is being charged by the alternator in your car through daily use or is attached to the average trickle charger on your occasional use vehicle such as an RV.) During the charge and discharge cycles, some of the sulfates enlarge to the point where they won’t accept energy, so they stay on the plate. As a battery ages through use or sits unused for periods of time, these lead sulfate crystals enlarge and can build up “excessively” to the point where they create a physical barrier across the plate (Sulfate Occlusion). Before long, this buildup can become so dense that a battery will no longer accept or release energy and it simply dies.

What are the other common causes of battery failure?

Other common causes of battery failure can include, but are not limited to, mossing, shedding, buckled plates, overcharging, etc. and in most cases are directly or indirectly related to sulfation buildup. For example, plates can buckle by being overcharged while the plates are highly sulfated and/or stored in a deeply discharged state. Excessive sulfate crystal buildup weakens the plates to a point where batteries are overcharged while energy is being introduced onto them. This in turn will overheat and possibly buckle or warp the plates. In a similar manner, “shedding” (the flaking of plate material) is thought to be created by excessively high charging rates on sulfated plates

Why is our battery charger better?

Battery Saver products are better because they are far more intelligent, more powerful and significantly more compact than most transportable charging units. Secondly, they not only charge, but they maintain and most importantly, rejuvenate a battery utilizing proprietary “Pulse Charging Technology” whereby the longer it’s connected, the better the battery gets—it’s that simple. Certain product models have a Load Tester and a Proprietary “Deep-Cycle Circuitry” built-in which, can not only be used to test the battery condition but also cycle a weak battery back to health. Thirdly, it has a built-in diagnostic voltmeter so that tests on all 12-volt electrical components can be performed.

What Types of Batteries can I charge using a Battery Saver Charger?

Battery Saver products can be used on all types, sizes and brands of lead acid motor vehicle batteries, which include wet cell, engine starting, marine/deep-cycle, sealed, gel, wire-wrapped, AGM refillable and maintenance-free varieties.

Can the Battery Saver Charger extend the life of my battery?

Yes, the proprietary algorithms built into our charger’s’ microprocessors, control the Auto-Pulse Technology to work diligently on desulfating the lead plates. This is done by pulsing the charge at 14.2 volts while controlling the length and frequency of the pulse to maximize the desulfating process. As previously stated, Sulfation is the primary cause of premature battery failure.

Can I really save my battery, or better yet can I recover a dead battery that will no longer accept a charge?

Although our products are designed for keeping good or new batteries in peak condition for a longer period of time, some of our chargers can be used to bring batteries that will not accept and hold a charge back to useful condition, even If the battery has been left in a discharged state for extended period of time. So the answer is yes. This is why our product is different from the competition. After a battery is connected to a linear charger, the sulfated plates can actually confuse this type of charger into believing the battery is charged when in reality, it’s not. When you try to utilize the battery, it simply doesn’t have the strength to work properly. Utilizing our proprietary Load Test and “Deep-Cycle Circuitry” which actually cycles the battery between the fully charged state and a completely safe but discharged state, our charge can in most cases bring a battery back to life. The process is relatively simple; charge the battery, then turn on the Deep Cycle switch. The load tester will slowly drain the voltage down to approximately 11.4 volts and then automatically switch back to charging mode thus bringing the battery back up to a full charge. Repeating this process is called “Deep Cycling” and it will get your battery back to health. The cycling between the two states of charged and safe discharged with the “Advanced Pulse Technology Circuitry” built into our charger will rejuvenate most batteries after 5 to 10 cycles. Keep in mind that some very badly sulfated battery plates could take several days to desulfate. Also, not all batteries can be totally recovered. If a battery has a short circuit or physical damage, it is impossible to bring back.

Does the Battery Saver charger automatically turn off when the battery is fully charged?

Unlike most other chargers, especially those that do not use pulse technology, we do NOT want our charger to turn off! Once a battery is fully charged, the charger continues to communicate with the battery by constantly monitoring utilizing a special measurement, which signals that lead sulfate is forming on the plate. Once that communication takes place, the charger begins the Auto Pulse process, thus breaking up the Lead Sulfate Crystals before they are able to create the physical barrier on the plate. At the same time the charger is maintaining the battery at a fully charged state.

What happens if I connect my Battery Saver charger incorrectly?

Nothing. The Battery Saver charger’s red fault light will let you know that it is not connected properly and the polarity protection will prevent any damage. Simply reconnect the output to the correct battery terminal posts and the charge will automatically begin the charging / desulfating process.

How long can I leave the Battery Saver charger/maintainer connected to my battery?

As long as it is plugged into a wall socket (AC Current) you can, and actually—we want you to leave the Battery Saver Charger/Maintainer connected to your battery. It will not overcharge or damage your battery. In fact it will improve the operating condition and enhance the life of the battery.

Can I charge more than one battery at a time with the Battery Saver charger?

Yes, you can charge up to four batteries of similar type and condition, connected in parallel with the Battery Saver Models 9999 – 6 &12 volt and 2365 – 6 &12 volt. You can also charge two 12volt and four 6volt batteries connected in series with the model 2365 – 24volt. Additionally, you can charge up to six six batteries connected in series with the models 2365 – 36 volt and 2365 – 48 volt.

Can you explain the differences and benefits of your charger cables?

Since there are so many different ways a battery charger can be utilized, we designed versatility into our units. Our Modular Cables System allows for cables with multiple functions to be used through the same port. The gold contacts improve reliability and perform better in any environment. We offer seven different types of battery and charger connections: Alligator Clip-on, Cigarette Lighter, Battery 5 Amp Fused LUG, Extension DC and AC and Volt-Probe. The bright yellow cable color enhances visibility in all mounting situations further eliminating accidental unplugs. Our unique cable end mounting loops also simplify the tie down process thus eliminating the possibility of dangerous and unwanted dangling of connectors.

Can your chargers be mounted?

They can be mounted on the wall, placed on the ground or mounted in the vehicle. The unique mounting bracket is easy to install and allows the charger to be removed and used remotely.

How does the Battery Saver charger/maintainer work?

Our microprocessor-controlled circuitry is extremely smart as it is programmed to communicate directly with the battery, and then adjust the charger to perform the task required. If it discovers a problem with the battery or the connection, the charger will let you know. It won’t turn on, it won’t short circuit, and it won’t damage the battery. The charger/maintainer fault light on the front of the charger will light up to let you know that action is required. Conversely, once it determines that it’s connected to a good battery, it will then switch into charge mode thus adding an appropriate current flow to the battery until, ultimately switching into maintenance mode. Here it will stay—checking, monitoring, rejuvenating and waiting until it is disconnected. The longer the charger is on, the longer the battery will perform as expected. It’s that simple.
